Eifel National Park. Nature is allowed to run its course in this large, protected area. The park covers 110 square kilometres, or about 17.000 football fields. The motto ‘let nature be nature’, as applied in national parks across the world, is also adhered to in the Eifel area. The wild cat, previously thought to be nearing extinction, lives in the area.

NABU (Naturschutzbund) Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V. The sub-organisation NABU Aachen-Land is involved in the Tri-Country Park, for example by organising bird watching excursions, exhibitions, and school projects, as well as contributing to the development and upkeep of (new) nature.

Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland e.V. BUND is one of the largest German environmental movements that strives for the protection of nature and the environment. The association promotes biological agriculture, the reduction of CO2 emissions, the use of renewable energy, and the protection of endangered species. For example, the Kreisgruppe Aachen-Land department aims to protect bats, amphibians, and orchards.

Landesgemeinschaft Naturschutz und Umwelt Nordrhein-Westfalen (LNU). The LNU is an umbrella-organisation with roughly 80 members. Its aim is to highlight issues of environmental protection in a political context by stimulating close cooperation between nature associations.
